Play Therapy

Play therapy is a safe therapeutic space for a child or young adults to work through their issues and challenges through a range of play mediums under the watchful and professional practitioner.
The room will be kitted with art materials, clay, puppets, masks, figures, sandtray, books and various materials a client can use for role playing, movement or storytelling.
A child will receive an initial 12-session offer, of 45 minutes each session. In order for therapeutic effect to take place, there has to be a commitment to finish the sessions. Additional sessions can be added, if all parties agreed it is for the benefit of the child.
Consistency and clear boundaries are essential for the success of the therapeutic outcomes. A consistent schedule and place to attend would help that greatly. It is therefore important that once the schedule is decided, it is maintained throughout the sessions. Understandably things can happen, such as sickness or emergency of any sort. This is reality and we will manage that when it happens while endeavoring to minimise the possibility of any cancellation or rescheduling as much as possible.
Within the room, a client can explore all the tools. He (or she) will be accepted as he is and respected to make his choices within the safety of the room. Following a non-directive approach as much as possible, we will develop a trusting relationship where he will lead. I will provide observations and reflections to help the child discover insights within himself and his place in the world.
